Inspiration Trampoline: Love The Icky Stuff

Inspiration Trampoline: Short posts to get you thinking. Bounce your thoughts around for the week and see what flies.

It is easy to love the loveable. I have heard it said that humans are incapable of unconditional love. I’m not so sure of the truth to that anymore. I believe we absolutely have the capacity to send love to ANY thing, person, creature, idea, circumstance, part of our self, belief regardless of our opinion of it or even the baggage associated.

Think of three things, people, situations where you feel you cannot feel love.  Send love. You do not have to love them. Just create love in your heart and shove it in their general direction. Do this every day for a week. What changes?

I suggest that you may not want to do this with trauma; work like that should be done with a licensed mental health professional. Pick people/events not associated with trauma.

Love and Light,

Val

Get Your Meditation Priorities Straight: The Lazy Way

A woman shown reading, playing on her computer, and just lounging in the same picture

I completely fell off the blog bandwagon. When I started blogging, I  promptly fell in love with WordPress, and then the holidays hit, my meditation class picked up, my first person shooter game really took off, so you know how that story goes. ( You think I’m calm in class, you should hear me when I raid)

All joking aside, I stopped blogging. I knew in my mind that I was coming back but wasn’t sure how much or how little time to give it.

The funny thing is that priorities is exactly the topic I was meant to write about. No coincidences, read on…

I found so much more at WordPress than I thought I would when I decided to create a blog to help boost SEO for my website.  I found a really neat community of people, a canvas on which to express myself in a more authentic voice, and lots of great information from other bloggers.  It’s worth every minute.

So now that the holidays are done, I have straightened out MY priorities and returned to blog again.  The funny thing is the first thing I saw was my last post asking for reasons and excuses.  My amazingly loyal reader, https://kelliewritingmoment.wordpress.com/ had answered that other things just come up. It was too funny and too perfect given my sudden departure from blogging as just that happened in my life.  Thankfully for my meditation students, I did continue to meditate.

Also, I was so grateful for Kellie’s comment because it gave me an immediate first topic to jump right back into blogging.

Looking at priorities.

My challenge is that I can help ANYONE meditate under ANY circumstances or lifestyles.

So there are two solutions to issues with priorities and meditation:

The Go Getter Solution:

Adjust your priorities. Look at what is no longer working in your life.  Look at what you spend your time doing.  How much is work? Play? Familty? Mindless zoning?  Chores? Spirituality? Self-care? Exercise?

All of these things are important.  Is there anytime that you feel could be better spent? Could you watch one episode instead of two to make 20 minutes to meditate?

Maybe there is even something in your life that you feel is detrimental? Trade that out.  Don’t get all crazy with it. Just look at your days and find 20 minutes somewhere that you could sit quietly.  Do it every day. If you skip a day, do it the next.  If you suddenly realize that it has been three months since you’ve even thought about sitting and breathing, do it as soon as you realize.  There is no should. There is no “supposed to.” Just start again as soon as you remember.

You will find that this time is extremely well spent.  Like a daily bubble bath for your nervous system, it will reset you for the day.

The Lazy (Or Extremely Not Lazy) Solution

For those of you that just don’t want to deal with all of that routine and schedule, never fear, this is for you too.  Also for those that simply can’t figure out how to squeeze in meditations.  Especially for my mommy students who cannot get a minute of peace until bedtime where they usually crash shortly after their little ones; this is for them too.

Meditate in the car on the way to work. Do it in the shower. Meditate while you brush your teeth. Notice all the sensations of your breathing when you sneak in a cup of coffee.  Feel your toes in your socks in the middle of a meeting (only zone out for the boring stuff though).  I’m not a scientist and I don’t have empirical proof, but I have witnessed people get amazing results from meditating throughout the day whenever they can.

Doing this whenever possible will increase your daily awareness of yourself and others exponentially. You will have more and more time to respond to situations from a place of calm.  You will probably even discover you have some time here and there to do longer sits.

Both of these solutions actually flex different meditation muscles and are two different meditation styles that work for different kind of people.  One is not better. The first give a daily grounding and a chance for the mind to have a long time to adjust and settle.  The second is for the less organized OR for those that need constant mindfulness reminders throughout the day.

For myself, I found that when I did a strict morning meditation practice, I found myself later that day disconnected.  I found that it is more helpful for myself to check in constantly to mindfulness.  Try different things and see what works for you.

Love and Light,

Val

Shoulds, Woulds, and Wishes

In my attempt to “prove” that meditation can supplement wellness for ANYthing that has been ailing you and fit into ANY schedule, I’m asking one question. I will address the replies in a series of blogs so I appreciate everyone who takes two seconds to comment an answer.

Here goes: Why can’t/won’t/don’t you meditate (at all/often enough)?

It’s That Time of the Year Again

Noooo… Not gratitude month again??? Why cant these yahoos just be grateful all year ’round and pipe down about it? Well…. I am grateful all year, but you can ask my husband whats its like to try to get me to “pipe down” over anything I feel passionate about.

So we are kicking off Gratitude Month! I believe gratitude is one of the highest vibrational frequencies out there, so we are going to tap into that this month in my weekly class.

….and…
Yay! Free stuff! If you are local, bring a friend for free!  Otherwise, if you are far away and like free stuff, you can call me for a free 30 minute phone consultation where I will load you up chock full o’ meditation information to get you moving in the right direction.  If you find that it is useful information, you could use it and watch it improve your life, or you could schedule more actual phone/skype sessions and watch even more happen.

Angry Pumpkin Syndrome

Looking at anger, pumpkin style.
(Bet you didn’t expect to see that face looking out at you from a light airy fairy meditation site… Probably not the next one either)

Now tell me the difference between that pumpkin featured at the top of the post and the next one:

Pardon the brevity. Been a bit busy getting my sites and social media coordinated. I will write a Halloween themed meditation post tomorrow probably.  Besides sharing this picture that touched me, I did want to stick my head out to let everyone know I am still here. (In case you were staying up at night worrying)

Meditation Challenge: Miracles in Minutiae

Test your meditation mettle.

The Challenge: 3 minute “minutiae meditation”.  The winner gets awesomeness points. (Do this right now… You can do it in 3 or 5 minutes.)

I’m thinking of turning this type of challenge into a regular thing…so let me know how you like doing it.  It probably won’t have its own day (like Super Duper Meditation Monday) because I’m just not that organized, but I’m going to shoot for every week if not more.
